Allan O'Connell immigrated to Australia with his family from Co. Cork in Ireland in 1986 at the tender age of fourteen.
From a family of musicians it was only natural that Allan was going to pick up one of the many instruments that lay around the house. Allan commenced at a very young age performing in various clubs and pubs firstly around Melbourne, then later in Brisbane. He played with many well known Irish/Australian Irish musicians and cut his teeth playing 'Session music' in many of these same pubs and clubs. In 1997 after returning to Melbourne, Allan joined the Ploughboys and the rest is history.
He has drawn on his Celtic/Australian musical heritage to pen several of the Ploughboys popular original songs and brings a wealth energy and depth to the great harmonies that are the Ploughboys blend of Oz-Celtic-Country-Folk and rock. Allan still performs on a regular basis with the 'Session players', Melbourne's Irish pubs in keeping in touch with his Irish roots.
